01Why Identity Verification Is Required
Your Eleva account has reached or is approaching the 3-Token threshold. Under Eleva's Terms of Service, all users whose token balance reaches 3 or more Eleva Tokens are required to complete identity verification (KYC — "Know Your Customer") before the balance can be held or used.
This requirement exists to:
- Comply with applicable anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime prevention obligations;
- Protect the Eleva platform and its users from fraud;
- Verify that users meet the minimum age requirement of 16 years;
- Maintain the integrity of the Eleva token economy and referral system.
02Cost of Verification
KYC verification costs
~1.5 Tokensdeducted from your Available Balance upon initiation of verification
The verification cost is deducted from your Eleva Token balance at the moment you tap "Begin Verification". This cost is a pass-through fee charged by Stripe Identity for processing your documents and biometric check. It is not retained as Eleva platform revenue.
Important:
- The deduction occurs when you initiate verification, not when it is approved;
- If your verification fails due to poor document quality and you need to re-attempt, each re-attempt incurs an additional token cost;
- Successfully approved verification will not be charged again;
- Verification costs are non-refundable once the process has been initiated.
03What You Will Need
To complete verification, please have ready:
- A valid, unexpired government-issued photo identity document:
— Passport
— National Identity Card
— Driving Licence (with photo) - Your device's front-facing camera for a liveness check (a real-time selfie to match against your document);
- Adequate lighting and a stable internet connection.
04How the Process Works
Token deducted. ~1.5 tokens is deducted from your Available Balance to initiate the process (pass-through cost paid directly to Stripe Identity — not retained by Eleva).
Document scan. You photograph both sides of your identity document using the in-app camera. The Stripe Identity SDK reads the document details via OCR.
Liveness check. The front-facing camera guides you through a liveness detection test (brief facial movement). This confirms you are a real person and your face matches the document.
Automated review. Most verifications are approved automatically within seconds to a few minutes.
Manual review (if needed). Complex cases may be reviewed by a human agent within 24–72 hours. You will be notified by email.
Outcome. You will receive an in-app notification of approval or rejection. If rejected, the reason will be stated and you may re-attempt.
Re-attempts (if needed). If your verification is rejected, you may re-attempt after reviewing the failure reason. Each re-attempt incurs the same pass-through token cost (~1.5 tokens, paid to Stripe Identity — not retained by Eleva). The number of permitted re-attempts may be limited by Stripe.
05Data Processing — What Happens to Your Data
Your identity documents and biometric data are processed by our independent identity verification partner:
Stripe Payments UK Ltd (via Stripe Identity)
Registered in England and Wales — Company No. 08480771
FCA Authorised — FRN: 900461
Website: stripe.com/gb/legal/stripe-identity
The following data is processed by Stripe Identity:
- Your identity document (images of front and back);
- Extracted data (name, date of birth, document number, expiry date);
- Biometric facial data from the liveness check;
- Verification outcome and decision.
Eleva Platform Ltd does not receive or store your identity documents or biometric data. Stripe retains verification records for the period required by its regulatory obligations and applicable law, and processes your data in accordance with the Stripe Privacy Policy. Stripe acts as a data controller in its own right for KYC data under its AML/KYC regulatory obligations. This means Stripe independently decides how to process your identity data to meet its legal obligations — Eleva cannot access, modify, or control that processing.
Eleva receives only: your verification status (approved/rejected/pending), your verified name, and document country. This is stored in your Eleva account profile and retained as required by anti-money laundering regulations.
Data transfers between Eleva and Stripe are governed by the Stripe Data Processing Agreement, which incorporates EU Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers where applicable.
06What Happens If You Do Not Verify
If you choose not to complete identity verification:
- Your token balance will be capped at 2 tokens;
- Token-dependent features (access above the 2-token threshold, certain premium features) will be unavailable;
- Referral earnings that would push your balance above 2 tokens will be held pending verification;
- Your account will otherwise remain active and you can continue using Eleva's free features.
07Your Rights
Under GDPR and applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data held about you by contacting privacy@elevaplatform.org;
- Request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention obligations);
- Lodge a complaint with the UK ICO (ico.org.uk) or your local EU supervisory authority.
